I was wondering. . everyone says that the Mclaren F1 is the fastest car in production. .. . . what about the TVR. . . it seems pretty close to me. .. will it ever beat out the Mclaren?

~DaNgErOuS~

I was told that the Mclaren F1 was the fastest car out there right now. .. but to me it seems that the TVR can come really close to beating it.. . am I right?

yeah ive heard lots of people say that its going to be faster than the mclrnF1 but they havnt released the car yet so top speed isnt known. but what ever happens it will look so much better than the boring maclaren f1 we all know

Limited in production or speed? In production, of course it will be. I heard they will make one roadgoing Speed 12 a month somewhere. In speed, no way in hell. No one makes a car like this and limits its speed. NO ONE.

ZondaFreak02

you are talking about production right?

i also heard that they will only make 1 a month. They havent speed tested it yet because nowhere in the UK is big enough for it to reach anywhere near its top speed

Will have 0-60 of 3 seconds dead and top speed of 240 mph

Fod

The speed 12 hasn't been top speed tested yet but is widely claimed to be around the 240mph mark even if this was hit (which im sure it will be) it's not yet a production car so wouldn't set any new records.

Also i'm sure that the Rockingham curcuit is more than a capable place for TVR to show the potential of this awesome machine (where Tiff Nedell got 214mph out of the MacLaren F1 on road tires) and reach these amasing record breaking top speeds

There's still doubts from TVR weather this will go into production at all and they're still only "registering interest" in the cars at the moment (my interest is well and truely registered!!) adnt rying to buy one of the used race versions (used in the british GT class) is impossible i've been trying for over 6 months and i'm only 40 miles away from the TVR factory.

the price (if produced) is set to be between £160000 - £180000 (around £215000 after tax i think) which could of been a hell of a lot higher for a machine of this standard (still not cheap though)

I will get one of these one day i swear it!!!!!!!!!

I've e-mailed the guy selling the Speed 12 but not heard back from him yet :(

Hopefully if the car he has is the one that was used in the GT championships he should have the older style body kit too although in all the photo's he's posted it's got the new Ceberra style front shame really as the older more aggresive style is so much better!

oh well here's hoping!

I sort of figured that but in his ad the guy says the car ran from 2000 - 2002 i'm sure 2000 and maybe even 2001 they ran the old body so he might (hoping) still have it lying around some where otherwise that's my next great task!! and that's if the guy even bothers getting back to me!

why cant this be a whole lot easier and TVR just sell me a prototype...

well i solved my mystery.. the car i posted (white and blue) is the Speed 12 GT1.. and the car that is for sale is the Cebera Speed 12 GT2.. my lucks well and truely out although the GT2 is still one hell of a car and im trying to find a copmany that can recreate the old GT1 body kit so i can get it fitted (any one know a company that could do this would apreciate some help)..

the cars up for £120000 (+vat) and again it's the GT2

i suppose if i was being sensible i'd say it the engine and engineering that makes this car not the gorgeous GT1 style but i guess if i was being sensible i wouldn't want a Speed 12 at all!!!!!!

Here's a pic of the GT2 so you can all play spot the difference... aint hard all the agression's gone out of this one.. this is the one you are most likely to pass on the street though as it's one being produced..

difference between gt1 and gt2?

Fod
11-06-2002, 03:55 PM
the only differences between the GT1 and the GT2 is the body work.. just take a look at the 2 photo's pasted on here.... the GT1 (white and blue) is by far more aggresive, sharper body lines.. this car's looking for a fight.. the GT2 (purple one) is the later rendering when they decided they will produce it and the earlier prototype was too raw for the street so they made it look like a bigger cerbera (from the front anyway) and what TVR know there customers like.. well most of them the GT1 is by far the best..

Like i said as far as i'm aware other than that they both share:

7.7 litre 48 valve V12

800bhp

650lb ft of torque

and just 1070kg

(MacLaren being 70kg heavier and 173bhp less!!!)

the speed 12 will be faster than the tuscan (by almsot 45 mph) and faster than the McLaren (couldnt tell you by how much yet though!)

another thing also with the McLaren F1 being £634500 and the Speed 12 being £188000 thats £447000 difference!!!! (and still half the price of a Jag XJ220)

all this with out the aid off Turbo chargers too (puts any Porsche to shame!)

The road going Speed 12 is supposed to have 940 bhp. It's weight is 1150kg. The only known dyno power rating of the engine in it is 660ft lb @5700 RPM(TVR's dyno's drive shaft broke when testing the engine at 5700 RPM). I also saw an interview of Peter Wheeler about the Speed 12, and when asked about it's power he was little dodging. He said that they were rating it at 940+ bhp. The way they got the power rating for it was by taking the power of the two straight sixes that make up the V12, and then added them togethe. He also said that the engineers thought the engine was making around 1200 bhp based on their equations and what not.

Also, the restyling was to meet race regulations. The front grill had to be 80% of the cars width.

I have yet to find any other official information on the Speed 12, but if you check out the "Speed 12" thread there is a full description of the methods my friend used to get an estimated 0-60 time for this car of 2.42 sec.

I've heard the racing Speed 12's had the power restricted to fit racing rules, and that the roadcars had up to 150bhp more. Of course, this is all hearsay, I'm unsure of the truth in it. :)

NO THAT MUST BE A LIE

jsb88
06-11-2003, 01:56 AM
There are GT restrictions, this could be true. That is why the cars top is 80% of the body width, so why not an HP restriction to make it fairer?

farbod
06-11-2003, 11:34 AM
i dont think it is true

bmwm3gtr200
06-12-2003, 12:55 PM
From what I have read in official writtings(Magazines, interviews) the race spec engine was capable of 800 bhp with the least restrictive restrictor plate. The versions that actually raced though were limited to between 660-680 bhp. As far as I have been able to find the only difference according to TVR between the street version engine and the race version engine is the street car doesn't have the restrictor plate, and has some tweaked engine mapping to optimize the added air flow.

tvr made a lot of money in the US before

thats were the first chasis were sold and were the griffths were developed
but scince then TVR has became 10 times more patriotic and the cars r made totaly from british things
even the petrol tanks lol
but the yanks love british cars cos they actually go fast and arnt too heavy and bulty like muscle cars so they would sell them well thier
