hey, i just got a B16B engine from japan, and i know in japan they run 98 octane...do i need to get a different ECU or something? Will it run on 91 octane OK without hurting the engine?? thanks/ or do i need to do something with the ignition??

you should be fine running premium. the compression is only .2 more than a b16a from here in the states. and also, not everyone in japan uses 98 octane. just cause its available, doesnt mean they have to use it.

Also, in europe, the way they calculate the octane is diffeent. There si a conversion somewhere. A lower octane American gas is comparable to a higher octane european gas. Maybe in Japan these use a different calculation also.

it will always hurt the engine because the comprssion!
they cumbustion chamber will not be refreshd the same way with a 91 octane gas!
you should go for airplane gas that haves 100octane!
