According to step 12 of the Ford service manual (http://www.aawt.org/pics/fuelpump.html) we're going to need a special tool to remove our fuel pump (module retaining ring). Does anyone know what other tool we can substitute for this tool?

A hammer and a screwdriver ;)
This tool is almost required if it is a newer model like 2005-2007 I think. It is simply a claw with 3 tangs on it to fit the ring and it will take a 1/2" breaker bar and a cheater pipe to "Pop" the ring. The force required to unlock or lock the ring is unbelievable.
