at a local junkyard there is a d16y8 for sale i was thinking about buying it would i have to do any thing special since i have a d15b7 in my del sol now i just want something with vtec thanks

Wire the Vtec and use your OBD-I harness and distributer and get an ECU. I think you may have to use your stock intake mani too, but I'm not sure. Reason being is that's an OBD-II motor. Other than that, it's all the same. Does it come with any sort of start-up guarantee or warranty? Junkyard motors are good to buy to rebuild, but I really don't trust them to swap in unless the car JUST got there.

My junkyard motor was swapped in directly with 80k on it. I put an additional 40k on it. Sometimes you get lucky but I paid a ridiculous price for my a6 because it was the only si motor the redneck honda mechanic could source.
Yeah, you'll have to retain your obd1 IM. You'll have to add in vtec wires and either have your ecu chipped or pick up a p28 ecu to run obd1 vtec. My guess is that switching everything over to obd2 would be a nightmare in comparison to just buying an obd1 vtec ecu.
