Need Advice Painting Boat

Need advice- I recently started paint a boat. I first started with degreasing the boat with a degreaser, then I wet sanded with 600. The next step was using 2k primer sealer, which came out great; the next day I wet sanded the sealer to remove any unsmooth areas. I then used Limco 4 Basecoat, this came out great. I then planned on wet sanding with 800 during a week span to smooth out the paint layer and add another coat of Limco 4 Basecoat and with no problems with the paint laided smoothly. Then this was I believe to have been my initial problem. I started to tape of some flames to shoot, but when I noticed that the tape adhesive was etching into the Basecoat. I then removed all the tape and used a degreaser to try and remove the tape with some wet sanding. I thought I have gotten the entire adhesive off, but when I shot the coat of clear, sides of the boat came out great, but the top of the boat started to spider crack. Was this caused by the prep or putting to much paint on at one time? Now I have gotten an adhesive remover and sanded with this. I have also sanded with 220 the whole top of the boat, to maybe prime seal again and reshoot the Basecoat and clear. I need serious help!
Thanks,
Eric

the most likely problem occured when you used the degreaser.your second problem was you sanded too fine. to prep a boat for paint #1 clean with degreaser,#2 wash the heck out of it with fresh,(filtered is the best) water,,alot,,,after you think your done rinsing,,rinse for another hour,#3sand with 220( im not familar with your paint,,i use Awl-Grip, and if you use gel-coat procedure is different), #4 blow off for as long as you rinsed,#5 dampen a rag(not wet,,i soak rag then flop it around in the air till jus damp NOT WET )with denatured alcohol and LIGHTLY wipe down entire boat,#6 prime, least 4 coats, THIN coats alwaYz better,#7 sand with 320 grit,,sand ALL shine awaY, #8blow off again,,twice as long as last time, #9 wipe down with alcohol again( remember when you wipe that you shouldnt be able to see ant wet steaking at all)#10 dont let ANYONE touch, smoke, cough, or breathe towards boat after you have sanded primer,#11 spray top coat then clear. I dont know about the wet sanding after, i've painted yachts for over 15 years and have only had to wet sand small mistakes,,never a whole paint job, thats why a clean damp dust free enviroment is best for a GOOD paint job, and less work :smokin:
when you sand too fine the paint doesnt have enough "hold" and will spider ar just peel off after a short time
