backfiring, sputtering

I have an 2001 Saleen S-281. The past few months occasionally when you start it it won't turn over. Then it will backfire and start just fine. Then a month or so ago I noticed that most of the time it runs alright but about 2 to 3 times a week, when given gas, it sputters pretty bad. It almost feels like it's running on 7 cylinders. Our mechanic said it could be a camshaft sensor and that I should probably replace the spark plugs. Being that a fouled plug may be the reason for the hestiation when giving gas to it. The only performance part I have is an off-road x-pipe that has been on the car for about 2 years now, and until recently I had no problems with the car.

Are you getting a misfire? Did you have a diagnostic scan done?

I'm in the process of selling the car and a potential buyer took the car to Auto Zone, and I know they don't have the best scanning devices, but the code for the cam shaft sensor came up.

With that said, I would go ahead and change the cam shaft sensor.
