well i was working on my engine the other day ... and this guy came upto me and went hay thats the same engine i have in my rover .... i went oh yeah... (i knew that rover based the 200 on the civic design but did not know tey used the same engines) ... so i took a quick look at it and it was a 1.6 honda engine ... not sure which one cos i did not have much time to look .....

so i have been thinking .... cos those rover 200s r so cheap over here in the UK maybe i can do an engine swap with one ... anyone know any details abotu these cars ??? and what engines they run

they do use the same engines....but I'm not sure about the mounts? I had a rover handbook....and everything was close to the same...I sold it to eric, maybe he wants to provide some insight ;) I would take a close look at the mounts...

The Rover was actually a 4 door first generation Integra. The ones we got ran either the ZC or the D16 Fi SOHC also found in the Concherto 4-door notchback.

Other than that, everything was interchangable with the 2-door first gen 'teg and most chassis parts were off the Civic chassis.

The engine itself in either config was complete with Honda markings.

So rekkon it would be worth taking the engine out of a rover 200 then ?? considering u can pick them up here from about £200 :) would it fit in my civic ?

1) Prolly not 2) get a ZC instead and 3) yes... if you add in the ECU (my guess is you have the single or twin-carb D15), gearbox, wiring etc. Assuming what you got was what we got - our Rovers were built in Japan and may be different :D

I can't see much of an improvement if you have the 100bhp twin-carb D15 :)

He has a twin carb D14 ;) with 90hp?

I believe it was the Rover 416 GS or GSi (sedan) that came with the 1.6 SOHC Si engine. Did the 200's also came with Si engine?
Like Marked said, check the mounts, if everything is the same I guess it's worth picking up a complete Rover for 200 and swap everything over :)

I got a d14 twin carb ... 90bhp as standard bu8t its probly pushing out just over 100 now ..... still i was thinking of getting one of the rovers cos they r so cheap compared to the hondas hee ... i mean i know i can pick up a rover 200 with a honda engine in it for £200 compared to the average price of the 4gen over here of over £1000 for some kind of 1.6 :( big difference in price... plus getting jsut an engine for the honda would prob be quite expensive cos there seems to be a compny caleld hondaparts.co.uk or somthing gonig around all the scrap yards buying up all the old hondas .... so i cant get any stuff from the scarppies :( plus usually u find that in the US imported cars come with slightly lower HP than the UK versions ... i need to find a web site with some details of the engines :( hehe

some info i have managed to find ... hehe for those who r interested :)

History:
Introduced in 1984 the Rover 200 was the first "Honda-Rover". It was basically a Honda Ballade, known as Honda Quintet in Asia and America, with some Rover modifications. It was sold with either a 1342 cc Honda-engine or a 1598 cc Rover-engine.
The 2nd series Rover 200, 1990 to 1995 models, was based on the Honda Concerto and now the 1.6 Rovers did use Honda engines.
In summer 1995 two new models were introduced, a smaller 200-series and the 400 in the size of the "old" 200/400-series. The 400 shares a floor pan and some body pressings with Honda Civic.
