another ABS/TRAC question

01 gp gt 3.8, 72k

the other day i pulled out kinda hard, drove for about 2 blocks, and then the power steering pump started whining real loud. so i check fluid and it is just a hair low. added some lucas ps fluid. drove it and whine seemed to to mostly go away, but now the abs and trac lights are on.

the brakes seemed a little funny too. in the past they seem to have grinded or thumped every once in a while.

from searching the forums here, i think it is a hub bearing.

Most likely the abs/trac off lights are a hub bearing. The power steering issue is unrelated, and is most likely a pump going south. the pump's not as bad a job as it looks to change either. You can get to the lines from the bottom) by removing the passenger side front tire, and to the bolts securing the pump to the engine by taking out the radiator overflow bottle (2 nuts on top). You'll need a pulley remover/installer tool (Auto-Zone has one in their free tool loan program) for changing the pulley to the new pump. I did mine in less than an hour from start to finish. the hub is the same story. If you can do brakes you can do a hub. Just be sure you buy a quality replacement, don't use an impact wrench, and tighten everything to spec with a hand torque wrench.

how do i determine which hub is bad? can i drive it with these lights on?

You're welcome Jimmy. Jack the car up and try moving the tire at different positions. The one with free-play is the bad one. You can also use a digital multimeter across the harness terminals of the abs sensor, it should spec at about 1k ohms.
