im lookig at buyin my dream sti...... im researchin... i live in western australia n second hand sti's in good cond range up to 47 grand whereas a new sti is 57 grand... they seem to hold their value well..... i prefer the old model with the one grill instead of the new grill.... but is it worth payin the bit extra for a new one and could i convert the new front end of the new sti to the one grill without costin a bit... so many decisions..... im also on my 'p plates' till next year so im kinda holdin off n savin till im off them coz my insurance will be thru the roof............. also my bf owns a ford xr8 au..... its pretty beefed up.. i goto get something better than his heheee

As mentioned in response to your PM, it depends what you're going for. You failed to mention you're in Australia in your PM though so that changes things a bit.

From '02 through '07 the front ends can be swapped, it's just a matter of getting your hands on the parts.

If you're on your 'P' plates, I would definitely hold off.

umm how is bein in australia a bit different? are the front ends hard to get a hold of?................... i agree with holdin off for a bit too... my friend imported a toyota jzx90 n her insurance is 2000 grand a year..........EXPENSIVE.....
but still pay the extra for new or go second hand for a bit less

wait till ur off ur p's

STi wise, you can't go wrong with anything Aus MY02-MY05 - these have the forged 2L, brembos and bullet proof 6 speed.

The ones before that have the 5 speed...but still 2L forged engines. Probably oldest u wanna go is the version 6 Sti which is MY00.

Any older than that they're the 2 door versions which are quite rare and imo not worth the price for what ur getting. Yes it's more rare and looks better, but it's also a thief magnet. Also, living in WA, it's pretty hard to get i would imagine.

If it were me, get an MY03-MY05 STi. Perferably the MY05. It's the most refined STi made. The last one before they put that rubbish 2.5L engine in them.

Stay away from the MY06 and MY07s....it's not really even an STi anymore...and definitely not worth the extra money.

As with the XR8....not to really worry about until u hit about 80Km/h in a straight line race.....but after that, u'll need to do some mods.

If u driving though the twisties, ....anything above 30km/h will take the xr8......screw that....anything over 15 =P

Good luck

oh...and my 2 cents abour insurance....wait till ur 25 at least. My Dad is 40+, totally clean driving record...driving 10+yrs and got quoted for my WRX at $2K

Ur gonna be paying a lot for a WRX/STi in Australia because it's not really that fast, it's cos they're thief magnets. The reputation of the car is no good, so ur gonna really have to hunt for a good deal. But b prepared to pay 2K minimum on ur STi no matter how old u r. If ur under 25, be prepared to pay 4000++.

Different models are available in Oz vs. US

And to both of you Aussies, this isn't AIM, let's try typing properly in real English, after all, you are part of the Commonwealth:icon16:
