Oil disappearing

When i bought the car they said they had to replace an oil valve or cap or something but it fixed the leaking problem. Well even before my engine problem:banghead: i couldn't go without putting oil in between oil changes, my light would always come on. there is no oil spot in the parking spot, before my engine problem there was no smoke. any ideas? feedback would be great!:grinyes:

Well if theres no oil spots then it sounds like ur burning it. My talon goes through about a quart a month, with no spots on the ground, and only at idle can u see a little blue smoke from the exhaust. With nearly 200,000 miles on it im sure the engine could use a rebuild, but it still runs fine and gets me where i need to go. I just make sure i check the oil twice as much as i do with my eclipse.

Just how much oil are you losing? I know mine burns about a quart every 3k miles or so, and it dosn't really leak at all (no spots on driveway). It's pretty normal for a car to burn SOME oil, just how much is the question. I suggest you monitor your oil levels a little more closely, because if it takes the oil light for you to figure out that your low, your not checking it enough.

i had the oil light come on in my talon at the end of my oil change cycle prior to realizing i was burning it, i noticed my oil was very thin so i bumped it to a thicker oil and checked my oil here and there but never a oil light flickering again

what kind of oil did you use that was thicker? and are you still burning oil? why did you burn it in the first place. sorry for so many questions...

If you live in a colder climate (I live in Wisconsin) then in the fall/winter/spring I run 5w30, which is a bit thicker than what most people run. In the summer I try to remember to switch over to 10w30 but don't always get around to it and by the time I do it's not really worth it anymore because I will have to change it soon anyways.
