Hello.... i just have some questions to ask since we pretty much all drive the same car...
So last year i purchased my z24 2002 with ecotec engine... The car only had like 47,800 kms... (I dont know the conversion in miles).. So the car all and all looked pretty good almost like new.. which off course i bought it cuz it looked hot.. So my questions are, could it really be that the car actually had 47,800 kms on the tach..??? I mean my tach is digital.. and can this be backed up my those second hand dealers..?? Of course my door hinges where finished, also my fornt top plates, my front bushings, and my sway bar bushings too... My rear brakes cylinders are rusted as hell (but they work).. also my front disks were woarped..The car was a leased car.. and of course the lease was ended.. but itz a very clean car and smells like new inside.. so really.. could all of those parts mentioned been worn out at only 47,800.. especially the door hinges.. hmmmm... somtimes i wonder..

just a quick conversion, i think that is a little less than 30,000 miles and thats practicly new in my book, those parts should still be in great shape IMO

Thats what i was thinking too... but of course i needed to replace them, especially the door hinges which should be worn out at about 125,000kms.. or close to 100,000 miles... the wiper arms were and are just like new just one little chip on the drivers side arm.. I know wiper arms should begin chiping at about 100 miles but not at 47,800.. the rest of the car is really like new.. Ill take some close ups pictures to show you all some close ups.. The mags are like new not even a small chip on them.. the moldings too.. ecept for one.. drivers side which i replaced.. Can the millage on my car be real.. and how can I really know.. The oil in my engine is always like new it hardly gets black.. I can see it when I change it.. The smell inside the car is smae like the dealership smell.. So its got that new smell.. the carpets are black and they are just like new... Just a couple seat brackets which were just a little risted but i repainted them.. That could happen with the winter boots.. the radiator is still like new... the motor runs like new also.. doesnt make a noise whats so ever. Its really hard to tell really. Mind you the doors on the cavs are pretty long which of course can put alot of strees on the hinges.. etc... hmmmm
anyone else can give some input..
Thanks bud.. :)

It could of been the leaser put a lot of stress on the hinges I.E. slamming the doors shut, etc. Also, since we live in Canada, the salt could of wore those cyliners out...It is illegal for dealers-of any kind-to roll back odometres. My '95 Cavalier has 106,000kms on it and I already had to do a front wheel bearing and a gas tank. Some parts wear out more then others. Dont for get we are talking about a Cavalier here lmao. But if you really want to be sure, then get a CARFAX on it. Thats probably the best way to find out.

I bought my z24, my odometer read 138K and it was supposed to be 186, he told me he rolled it back. At least he was honest.

Cavs that are 00+ store their mileage in the computer, there's no way to tamper with it...unless..maybe...they went through the trouble of switching computers

well since u live in canada im sure that is the reason for all the rust, even the hinges possibly. i have heard it happening when i lived in northern indiana. check carfax or go back to where u got it and demand to know what the mileage really was. either the miles are right and ur car was sitting out in the elements the whole time, or something fishy is going on.

Strut mounts going bad?... very very common. Especially the 00+ ones which are a 2 piece design.

What do you mean changing the computer..??? and do you mean they changed it..?? What kind of work is involved in changing the computer..??

You asked if the dealership rolled your miles back right? Well, the only way they could've done that is if they swapped in a different ecu. I don't know how to do that or what work is involved and I'm not saying they did that. I'm just saying that's the only way they could've tampered with your miles. I doubt they did.

Aside from the points i mentioned above.... my car is really like new pretty much everywhere... i good wash and wax and my car can easily go back into the showroom... the interior is in perfect condition nothing is worn out and nothing looks old and nothing is faded... pedals arent worn out at all.. etc.. paint, mags and bumpers..everything is like new.. and the paint is all original.. because there arent any fumes on the moldings.. and you can easily tell that my paint job was done with the bots and not by humans... I have been told by the dealer when i got the hinges done that it is quite common on the cavs considering that the doors are so long and heavy.. and for sure that parts arent top quality like say... BMW's or Mercedes.. etc... I was also told that my car back in 2002 fully equiped like mine was 27,000 $$ everything included.. I do have the delux interior with the leather shifter and, all those gadgets.. I also have the electric sunroof..
Ill just take more pics soon... with more details and just add em in my thread..
Thanks..

My friend's 04 Ls Sport was 21k brand new and he's got all the options. 27k for an 02 seems really steep

idk how your rotars could possibly be warped at 30,000 miles unless someone really drove the piss out of it and the rusty hinges and cylinders could of jjust been from sittong outside i live in wisconsin and with all the snow and salt that gets under your car if you dont do something about it it will rust out fast. Check the bottoms of the doors and check to make sure its not rusting at all down there and if it is do something right away i had to replace the doors on mine because they rusted out so bad from sitting

There was a couple little rust bubbles under the doors... very minor.. I sanded the little rust and applied some silver anti-rust paint... and then gave it the rusr check treatment... was the same for the trunk too... It looks to be like my car was driven hard.. and the owner of the car lived up in the mountains. so i believe the roads there were alot worse then in the city... and of course the winters here are really bad... but my car when i purchased it was very dry eveywhere.. no grease no where... looks like all they did was drive it and, oil changes.. and thats it.... But seeing in the photo my car is mint... I just wish a knew the truth about the milages.... grr....

yeah with my car befor i got it, it was my uncles and he never drove it so it sat outside for about 3 years the bottoms of the doors were rotted out beyond repair so i had to replace them but otehr then that i dont think there was much rust any where else besides a couple little spots on the doors

So its better to roll with the car then to keep it stopped, correct..??? Also what you should do is, undo your iner door panels.. and just throw some oil in there and let it penetrate in the doors.... oil can protect alot..or just get a can of rust-check and spray that in there also add some in your power window tracks.. etc.. that stuff is good eveywhere.. anyways i was offered 10,000 $$ for my car.
