I just recently got a 1980 c-10. i havent gotten it on the road yet but i have driven it around the yard. It seems like it bogs down when i gas it. It also doesnt have to much acceration. Anybody got any tips or anything on this truck.

Its got a straight six in it by the way. It used to be a standard but it was converted to automatic. Im not sure of its history. Jus wanna improve it the best i can. Thanks

Try adjusting the idle mixture screws. Loostening makes it richer, tightening make it leaner. When you have a lean idle mixture it causes hesitation upon accelleration. Turn both idle screws out 1/4 turn. Drive it. If it hasn't changed do another 1/4 turn. If it still hasn't changed my then, it's something else.

check to see if your air filter is soaked in crap, gas oil, etc somthing, im only saying this because i used to have a straight six about 4 months ago lol, the throttle responce was horrible and seemd like it boged, air filter/ plugs / wires make a huge diff, and the reallity is, its a 25+ yr old pickup truck with a L6 not a 454 , the thing is a tank even if it doesn't bog, its not going to " move " its old and heavy not brand new. if you wanted somthing fast, should of looked into a monte w/ 454 lol good luck tho thats my negative 2 cents

Edit: and your "yard driving it" give it time to warm up as well. agian, good luck

heres another thought , i dont know what its called but, where the "throttle cable" connects to on the Carb.. / carb spring or w/e , try pushing it in the seal may have gone and causes it to pop out when you hit bumps ect.. i cant clearly say/ explain it but you might have a hunch of what im talking about -- when i go 35 mph some times itll bog/ cant even hear the motor accelerate and i have to pull over and pop w/e back in lol .. end of me guessin

hey check the spark plugs make sure that they are connected to the right spark plugs. because that will cause it to bog down and sometimes backfire through the exhaust. so just check that and also check the carborator make sure that its not flooding itself

accelerator pump

timing

check both

if the carb doesnt squirt a nice jet of fuel when you open the throttle then the accel pump needs replaced

then it will not bog when you accelerate

happens commonly

im always having to replace them

i jut had to on an old 4MV Q jet i have on the 82 trans am, the other day

it quit squirting

now of course if the float level is too low then the pump cant pump any fuel

so make sure the fuel level in the bowl is up where it is supposed to be

good luck
