Problem Car: Resolved

My SES light was on for awhile, but I didn't have time to take the car to the shop to get it checked out until the day after Memorial Day. (By the way, it's a '96 Grand Prix SE coupe with 130,000 miles and a replaced engine and transmission) So I kept driving it since nothing really appeared to be wrong with it. I started driving to a friend's house, and got up to 50 mph on a country road and started slowing down for a stop sign. I was watching the speedometer and suddenly the SES light turned off. The problem started when I replaced the air filter. Everything looked and ran fine, so I don't know what it thought was wrong, but I guess it's alright now. Anything sound suspicious?

Leave the iat sensor unplugged in the air duct?

I don't know anything about that sensor. I just unscrewed the 4 screws, popped it open, took the old filter out, put the new one in, closed it, screwed it back together and started driving. The SES light actually came on the first time I did anything, and all I did was unscrew two of the screws, and then I realized I didn't have time to check the filter, so I screwed them back in and left. That's when the light came on.

could have been a small evap leak. or loose gas cap. happens quite frequently. next time get it scanned out. I believe that specific code is P0442. if it comes back, you may want to try replacing the gascap.
