Bypass A/C on a 99Z24?

Just recently my 99 Z24 has been making a weird sound when ever the A/C is turned OFF. Mechanic told me that it was a bearing in my A/C compressor, and that it would be a very costly fix/replacement.
What I am wondering is if there is any way to bypass the A/C compressor completely, by either getting a smaller belt (think that could mess with the tensioner, not sure), or by adding some type of replacement pully, that only fills in the spot.
I know that with the 99 Z24, you could only get it was air, so there is no second belt available for it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

www.mantapart.com OP 4519 (http://www.mantapart.com/24tc.html?200,38#) A/C Eliminator Pulley: This special casting replaces the bracket and air conditioning compressor on 2.4TC engines and uses a stock belt. Remove weight and reduce drag for more power.
