Hi folks,
I just purchased a 1998 740 il and left the lights on for the night and in the morning the car wouldn't start. I checked the batt after charging and I also pulled the security fuse in the trunk by mistake when checking for the cd fuse. The alarm went off and I pushed the unlock button on the keyless entry and the alarm stopped. But the problem started when I tried to start the car it was asking for a code above the raido and in the dashboard. The maint and batt and oil light are on and don't know how to get the code. The radio works so it's not the code for the radio. Can someone help me.
Please give answers to my e-mail @ [email protected] Thanks and God Bless

The dealership will be able to give you the radio code. Just phone the nearest dealership, they may or may not ask you for your VIN number but it's a good idea to have it handy. If they can't pull the code up by the VIN number, you may have to give them the radio's serial number, which means you have to take the radio out and look on a sticker for the serial number and they'll be able to give it to you.

As the code is a security feature, there is no way, at least that I have heard of, to "scan" for the code in the radio.

Unless you have the code in your manual case on a card or something, that's the only way that I know of to get your code.

You talking about the drive away program.... You will have to go to the dealer like he said, but it will cost you. Have you tried all the common defaults, 1111, 0000, 1234,4321 and etc?

There are no radio codes... use keyentry to reset system, and make sure battery has been recharge completely...:2cents:

Claudios: Why is the car asking for a code then? I realize I'm more familiar with E32's than I am with E38's, but if there is no code, why would it flash it?
