More AC woes...

Alright, my AC isn't blowing cold air.
The dealer recharged it once, probly twice, lasted about a day.
I personally used a refrigerant once, it lasted about a day.
I just tried using one of the UV tester ones tonight, and the only spot that glowed was around the top port where I sprayed the stuff in. Other then that I didn't see any other spots glowing so I'm assuming it's not leaking. However, the system was at 0 psi.

Please tell me what's wrong.

You're leaking.

Get under the hood and turn on the AC after charging. Breathe deep and when your lungs start hurting you found the leak.

But, honestly, if its at 0 psi, then you have a leak, plain and simple. How you find it, well, I'm sure you know the ways. UV dye or pay someone.

Well, after spraying in the uv crap the psi was at 45, which I guess is the normal psi. I checked it again this morning and it was almost at 0, so I must have a leak somewhere, just not seeing it. I gotta take it to a damn shop or something.

Check the port (schreider valve) for leaking. Do you have the blue cap with the oring in it. The oring helps seal in case there is a small leak in the port itself. Then refill it again. Pop the valve a few times.
I have the same problem right now and just don't have the time to address it. My fear is the compressor went out on mine too.
It doesn't even turn on anymore. I put in refrigerant to be sure its not low pressure because I believe there is a low pressure safety switch that keeps the compressor from turning on. Additional problem is that my fan will not turn on when the AC is turned on. A possble problem with the switch itself because I had some work done 2 weeks ago- had the heater core replaced. I think a connector was left unconnected. And its summer and its hot! A next weekend project.
Keep us posted on where you found your leak. May help pinpoint ours.

Hey Lance,

Is your compressor even coming on anymore? The system must be on and the compressor running in order to charge the system. You will hear it click on if it is working. It will also bog the engine down a bit. The compressors will shut them selves off if they get low on refrigerant as a precaution. The refrigerant works as an oil to the compressor and we all know how things go when theres no oil :grinyes: If the compressor is not on and working, the system will not take the refrigerant. I would assume that it would get in the hose that you connect the can to, and all around the fitting, but not into the system. There is a trick to getting the compressor to come back on if it no longer comes on. I need to work on mine as well. I will take pics to show you how to do it. Till then post back and let me know if your compressor is coming on.

If cold air blows for like a day after getting recharged does that mean the compressor is working and the system gets pressure?
It just doesn't hold it for over a day.

Yes if the system blows cold air for a day after it has been charged, then at that time the compressor is on and functioning. However, if the system gets low on 134a (refrigerant) then it will shut the compressor off and you must turn it back on in order to charge the system. If you do not turn the compressor back on before you charge the system, the 134a will not circulate through. That also means that the UV dye will not circulate either. If that is the case with your car, the UV dye may not have gone through the system and therefore not shown you where your leak is. You have to trick the system into thinking that the pressure is fine so that it will allow the compressor to come on. Then while it is on you must charge it immediately. The sensor is located just behind and the the right of the left side headlight (when looking at the front of the car) It has three prongs on it. You have to take a wire and touch it to the different combinations untill you find the right two that turn the compressor on. Then you can charge the system...here are some pics of the sensor. Hope this helps :)

Ok, I was working on mine yesterday and a little bit today as well. Last time I charged the system I thought that I had just jumped the two points from the plug itself. However, that did not work for me yesterday. What I had to do was run a wire from the positive side of the battery to the red wire on the three prong plug. MAKE SURE YOU DON'T RUN IT TO THE BLACK WIRE ON THE PLUG, THAT IS A NEGATIVE WIRE AND POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE TOUCHING IS BAD. The only other option is the yellow wire and that just increases the RPMs of the engine. So as long as you don't touch the positive jumper to the black wire you are fine. I did all of this while the car was running, I don't know if it would have any effect on it other then taking the charge. The car must be on and the AC must be on its highest setting in order to take the charge. Once you have run the wire the compressor should be turned on and kept on. That way you can begin charging the system. My findings were that the system would not fully charge like this, but it would take some charge. When it feels like it stopped taking a charge, turn the car off, then re-connect the three prong connector to the sensor, and then turn the car back on. The compressor should have enough pressure to kick on by itself at this point. Now that the compressor is working, go ahead and finish charging the system.

Now: For the dye...Don't use the liquid dye and the hose that you buy seperately. I found that it just makes a HUGE mess. I would instead buy the 134a that already has the dye in it. I used that setup and found that i was leaking in two spots. I went to the Junk Yard to see what I would need to repair it. Figured, why take mine apart to see how it works...go get some experience at the junkyard first! :iceslolan Turns out I need an o-ring and new service ports. I am getting ready to repair my system and I will keep you all posted on if it works or not. Hope this helps
