so heres the deal...i was helping my friend get out of some mud while 4x4ing. It took quite a while and alot of bumping and banging on the bottom of my truck. Once i got him out my truck died. I started it again and it now makes this horrible squeaking noise. and runs really rough. I opened the engine compartment and it was covered in mud. Now im having a hard time keeping it running...everytime i stop it dies. It sounds like a metal on metal squeal. I was wondering if anyone knows what that might be. Maybe a crack in the block or oil rings shotor something? any help will be appreciated. Its a 4.3L V6 262cubic inch engine.

Oh man, what have you gotten yourself into. I would first start checking the pulleys. It sounds like you have one that's jammed. If one of the pulleys is stuck, it makes a really loud squealing sound as the belt slides over it. I'm surprised the belt hasn't snapped though. So maybe it's something else. If you suspect it has something to do with the oil, maybe you busted the oil pump. Check oil pressure and level. I feel your pain man. Not knowing what's wrong with the car is the worst feeling.

Not neccessairily a jammed of seized pully, but check the belt isn't too loose.

if it is, it's probably slipping. a jammed pulley would cause all sorts of problems.

Check your electricals, lots of mud and water in the engine bay might've screwed something up causing it to cut out. other than that, not sure what it could be.
