All I know is that my cheap ebay/home made intake setup flows just as good as the old airaid intake I had on my 4.8L. Total cost of making it was around $100, which included the tubing, connectors, filter, and heat shield.

If you have a HD crew cab it should already have a on the road forced cold air intake from grille or fender area and the big AC Delco cylinder type HD air filter.
If you want to save money use what you already have on it.

I got my K&N FIPK for $150 shipped on ebay (brand new).

that is a good price... what kind of results are you seeing? I am afraid of water getting into that filter easily. I know k&n's are oiled as I have one already, but I was hoping that the cold air intake could save me a bit on fuel. Maybe get a mile or two per gallon better.

You might get a mile or so out of it. You will probably notice a decent power gain though.
Water shouldn't get into it because it is sealed off at the hood by the heat shield. If you go through extremely high water you might have to worry about it, but you will probably have other issues to worry about at that point.
