BMW M Compact

I read a few months ago that an “M” version of the BMW 3-series Compact is to be released in (end) 2002 across Europe. I haven’t heard anything since so I don’t know if it will actually happen. The car will be powered by the 230bhp 3-litre engine seen in the 3, and 5 series, as well as X5. BMW’s plan to release a “hot” compact was mainly due to the Audi S3’s success and the arrival of the 147 GTA. The car should more than eclipse the S3 in terms of driving thrills and should also edge the Alfa 147 GTA as the latter is front wheel drive. It will cost the same as an S3.

My opinion is that yes, it would be interesting to see a fast compact (although the 192bhp 2.5 isn’t exactly slow), I just hope that the car is facelifted first as I know BMW are planning to do this, as sales haven’t exactly soared since the Compact was released. If it looks good, I think it will be a success. We wait and see…
