I have a 1998 honda accord lx 4 cyl, the check engine light is on and the code is p1382, which means NO CYCLINDER POSITION SENSOR SIGNAL, now i have taken the car to several mechanics a few said it was a distributer problem but after changing the distributer the problem was still there, the last one i took it to says he think its the computer thats bad, if any body knows what i need to change with this p1382 code i will be happy to here from them plus this car is burning fuel like an f16 and it was recently tuned up, thanks

Uhhh...why is nobody replacing the cylinder position sensor?

Duh...forgot...it's part of the distributor, huh?

I guess you'd have to see if there is a timing signal from the sensor at the corresponding pin on the ECM to verify the sensor is working and the signal is making it that far, then you could draw on that to condemn the ECM if it doesn't seem to be using that reference...

I don't have pin-out info offhand for your year, but a lotta libraries now have access to Chilton or Mitchell service data...you can look up the pin outs for yours and check the signals with a DVOM, a cheap one will do it....

Where did the replacement distributor come from? There is a troubleshooting sequence that goes with this problem. It involves checking the resistance of the sensor at the 10P Plug, then checking to see if there is resistence between the sensor leads and the chassis, then to check the wiring to the ECU. If all that checks out, then the problem could be the ECU and the only way to check that is a swap-out. The 10P plug is one of the plugs that goes into the distributor. Pin nos. of the CYL sensor is 4 and 8 (wire colors yellow and black), I think. Resistence should be between 350-700 ohms and there should be no continuity between the pins and the chassis. I can understand it using a lot of gas with the CEL on. It means the car is in "limp home" mode and all the things that give Hondas good MPH is disabled.

I went and picked up an ecu today, but it would not start the car, but what i am seeing is that the security light for the key is flashing cause u know that these keys has a chip in it so i dont think that this ecu is recognising the key, how do i progam it to recognise the key? any ideas or am i gonna have to take it to a honda dealer?
