Anyone familiar with this Dutch beauty?
It's a Donkervoort, a Dutch handmade car.
Used to be a kitcar but since '83 they can only be orderd as a complete cars.
And what a car it is!
630 kg + 210 bhp -> 0-60 in a bit more than 4 sec.
The fun factor is a 10 on the scale of richter!
Under the bonnet is a 5 cilinder Audi engine.
In 150, 180 or 210 bhp.
My brother in law owns one and he's hard to beat on curvy roads even with my supersport motorcycles....

Yeah, but I like the styling of this one better. Plus, a roof means you can drive it all year round, and no wind noise.:)

I like the Donkervoort more than a Super 7 or a Catherham.
Besides the looks... The Super 7 is a bit outdated.
The Donkervoort has a better engine, beter suspension, better handling, nicer finish of the interior and better overall performance....
I can tell because we've tried all (Lotus, Caterham, Tiger) before getting a Donkervoort

This is a impression of the new Donkervoort D20.
It will be produced with a 2800 cc V6.... :licker:

I see carbon fiber...nice....
Any knockoff of the Super 7 is a beautiful thing, IMO.
Didn't someone get a V8 into the Caterham, anyway? The only problems with big engines is they add a lot of weight, caution is the word of the day.
And the Audi engines are nice, especially since they can be taken to over 300hp...

Ah the Donkervoort, probably the best S7 kit out there... I first saw these cars a few years ago, and lusted after one before learning I'd never be able to have one in Canada, due to our american crash standards :(
Maybe when I make it to Italy I'll get one... to go with my TVR Cerbera and my MB G500... They drive on the right side of the road in Italy, right?

Yeah, and the turbo 20 valve 5 cylinder is a torque monster. The last one they made made 258lbft@1950rpm, and held that level of torque through 4500rpm. It made 230hp peak at 5900rpm, and had a redline of 7000rpm. This engine managed to motivate a 3800 lb Audi sedan to 60mph/100kph in under 6 seconds, according to Car&Driver.
Modified, these engines have made 400hp, and over 300lbft. Since the engines are built with 9.3:1 static compression, there is no turbo lag, as the turbo spin very quicky and boost very smoothly from very low RPMs.
Anyhow, that would be rather quick for a little Super 7 :D

I couldn't find any info on 5 cylinder DVs, where did you read about them? All the new D8s are using the 1.8t 4 cylinder, and the older ones used a Ford 2.0 liter 4 cylinder.
I will say again, the Audi 2.2 liter 5 cylinder owns.

Eek, I was thinking 300hp and maintaining the beautiful torque curve of the engine... but whoa.

Thats in KW, though
I cant really tell which is torque and which is hp, as its NM and KW.
But, 425Kw is about 315hp.

I didn't see that was in kW, well even better, 425kW is about 570hp.
Mr. Dahlback said the engine puts out over 900hp, but the car has tacktion problems on the dyno over 5000 rpm.

Just double checked, I read the wrong chart. I was thinking it looked wrong.....So yes, its in the mid to upper 500hp range.
And it would still be fairly light... drool.....I want one. Now.:p

What do you think the top speed would be? :)
Cbass
12-03-2002, 07:07 PM
That would depend on gearing, but I wouldn't want to go more than 150mph in a Super 7, it's not exactly the most aerodynamic shape, and would probably be pretty unstable...
Also, it's not a completely sealed cabin, so I'd say 120mph would be safe... getting there in 7 seconds, that's a different story ;)

Super7's were never about top speed, and I am in agreement with that mentality. Its all about the acceleration and handling, IMO.

Like the westfield XTR that beat a pagani Zonda, it could accelerate so much faster, and go round corners faster as well.

Exactly! If you wanted a car for doing 120+ mph, you'd probably want a roof on it ;)

BTW, that is the slower TVR Cerbera, it makes 380bhp or so. The new 4.5 makes 450bhp, I believe.

Yes, but so does the Caterham R500, Westfield Mega Busa, Tiger Z100 and all other Lotus 7 clones.
