Gas mileage city better than hwy

Hi, I just bought a 97 Lincoln continental and the computer says I was getting 19 km per liter. I went on the hwy and it dropped to 14 km per liter and I was taking it very easy. I thought I would get better millage on the hwy.

Is there something wrong with the car?

those computers are not very acurate, and have a slow calculated response time.

How have been driving around the city a little and now it is slowly climbing back up. I'm at 14.3 km now, very strange to get better city than hwy.

It sounds like your watching the "Average Km / Liter" readout....

Try switching to the "Instant Km / Liter" readout to see what your your driving habits are actually doing to your fuel economy.

Also, get the real statistics whenever you fill the tank. Record the Km driven, divided by the Liters used. This gives you actual data. Do it ten times, then average those ten to get a real figure.

Make sure your transmission is using the highest gearing whenever possible, i.e. Overdrive at cruising speeds.

My computer(s) are dead nuts accurate... and the response time's are instantaneous.
My wife's Chrysler is a bit slow to respond but that can be expected..
