cold air intake

Hi everyone,
I have been lurking on this site for some time now, but have never posted anything. I am wondering if any of you run a cold air intake on your truck. I have a 02 sierra 2500HD and would love to save some money. What are your thoughts? :uhoh:

In my father's '06 a K&N air filter actually improved his gas mileage by about 1 mpg. It's not a huge difference, but it's a start. As for a cold air intake, I'm not sure. GM puts in basically stock cold air intakes in their vehicles by having the air inlet out at the front of the vehicle away from the heat of the engine compartment.

I have a cold Air Intake on my 94gmc and have a friend that pickedup a Fram Cai for his dad last year and it sounds great in his truck, gives the exhuast a rumble more or less. As for the Gas milage i gained around 2-5mpg as to where he was up in the 4-8mpg since it's a newer truck. I belive it's a 03 2500Hd , but im not sure ..

I would say either go with a K&N or AirAid, both are good i personally have Airaid just like the design of it more .

Another thing you could do is pickup a Throttle body Spacer and a ColdAirIntake Aem makes a kit with everything in it for around $300 or so

You'll pickup performance and gas milage for sure.

that is great news to hear you saw those results. I have not heard of airaid, but just checked them out. They are pretty expensive for the set.... like $280. Did you buy the set or just the filter and basket? What do you think is different or better than the K&N??

I paid $250 for my kit , came with everything ( Filter, Pipe, Base ) and i also ordered a oilling kit with it, i would say K&N is one of the better ones but like i said there AirAid and if you look around you can find some great deals.

I would say take a look around you may find a kit on ebay also, otherwise from what i can see your going to be around $300 or more price range but to get power you have to spend $.

You are right about the money.... My GM dealer in town will install a K&N for $300. I am debating on whether or not to install myself, as I am pretty handy with snowmobiles etc. How difficult was this job? Did you have to modify any parts? The airaid seems to be identical technology as K&N.

No it's simple dont waste your money, i would pickup either the K&N or AirAid, i personally went with the AirAid because i dont like being like everyone else, i sorta like doing my own thing and the AirAid is not as popular but does the exact same thing. And, if you go ahead and pickup a TBI spacer then you'll notice alot and that too is extreamly simple to do , both if you get both should maybe take you an hr at the most since you'll already have the intake system off any ways so the TBI would go first then the Cai , and just when you first start the truck after words the sound will be alot different.

Thanks for the words of advice. :) what is the TBI you speak of? Something to do with the throttle body? What do you do with the oxygen sensor when installing one of these? What does the TBI accomplish?

the Tbi spacer lifts the TB about an Inch or so, and what it does is creates a Vortex of air to improve the throttle responce and also give you better mpg. It does actually work and it should just bolt right up under your tbi so the tbi would sit directly on top of the spacer .

Look around i foudn mine for $65 shipped and works great, you can actually notice a difference in how the truck drives now from where it was prior to having it. And if you get both the cold air intake and the tbi spacer you'll notice a big difference, Do you already have a exhaust system on your truck, if not were you planning on getting a different setup?

Im currently in the process of getting a 3" diamiter kit from jegs or summit and prob getting some dynamax mufflers , that should open up the performance alittle bit .
