96 sebring lxi problems

I bought a used 96 lxi the other day and it ran well when we test drove it but now we'll be driving it and it will all of the sudden die. I can put it in neutral and start it back up but shortly after it will die again. If we let it sit for awhile it will drive longer without dieing. Im hoping someone has some answer because I need a working car.

Try cleaning the idle air control valve. If it's dirty and sticking, it will cause this kind of problem.

It's part of the throttle body. If you take off the large rubber intake tube that goes to it from the air cleaner assembly, inside the throttle body you'll see the throttle plate and a hole about the size of a dime. The little hole leads to the idle air control valve. Get some of the special cleaner at Autozone, Advance, etc. and puff it into this small hole while gunning the engine to keep it from stalling. A couple of squirts should do it. Put everything back together and see if your problems gone. Last can of the cleaner I bought was just over $4 - be sure and get throttle body cleaner, not plain carb cleaner.

I'd be looking at the crank sensor. Cryco's have a problem with them heating up and shuting down, won't be ling before it stops working period. I'm just guessing here. Your gonna need a scanner and prob a tech for this one. Could be wrong, but as a tech of 23 years, that's were I would start. I have a 95 LXI, I bought it with a stalling problem, checked the crank senser and it was out of range, new one in, runs like a dream.
