Replacing fuel pump (98 Taurus Wagon)

Hey! Do you guys know where the fuel pump is located (in 98 Taurus Wagon) and how to replace it? The installation is as expensive as the fuel pump itself so I was wondering if there is any way to do it myself. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum!

The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank. I don't believe the wagon has an access panel for the pump under the 2nd row of seating, so you'll have to drop the fuel tank and replace it that way, which is why the labor is so high. Not an easy task, especially if the tank is more than a 1/4 full of fuel.

I think that the Taurus is one of the easiest fuel tanks to drop on a Ford besides the Windstar.

Seriously, if you are not sure on what you are doing, please leave it to the pros. A fuel system is nothing to screw around with if you are cluelesss.

If you are confident you can change the pump yourself, search for my thread "98 duratec fuel pump?". In the last entry I describe changing the pump.

I have some advice: Stay away from the aftermarket fuel pumps and they are junk. The warranty sucks and warranty is denied everytime.Airtex and Carter are two to stay away from.Get one from the dealer although it is more money.Went through this, put 4 fuel pumps in one car,3 were Carters and put in a factory fuel pump in it for the 4th time. The car has not come back with problems yet after putting the 4th fuel pump in.Change the fuel filter too, part of the warranty.
