My 97 crown vic interceptor has a real hard shift it has a possible 140k on the tranny and 90k on the engine. Should I change my fluid or leave it alone? any suggestion are appreciated.

Thanks

I forgot to add something before... The gears are not slipping at all it is just shifting very hard. I am just not sure if it would be smart to change the tranny fluid. especially if im not sure if its been changed ever.

Is the fliud bright red? or is it burnt and brown?

Depending on your plans with the car... If its a driver and its burnt I would leave it alone and let it run its course.... but If its something your going to keep and don t mind putting a tranny in it preventive maintenance is always good...

Is it possible theres a shift kit in the tranny? or did it one day start shifting hard?

good luck

THe last owner actually told me it had always shifted hard. But I dont think there is a shift kit in it it really doesnt feel like it. But it is something I will have till it dies so im just tryin to figure out how to make it purr you know. So I should change it? its not slipping at all

if the fluid is nice and clean i would leave it alone.... actually i would leave it alone anyways... It may run a long time with that condition... those car you can pick up a new tranny on ebay cheap if it goes bad

goood luck

Have your car scanned for shift solenoid issues. Wrong transmission fluid could also give you hard shifts. So the answer would be yes....

Check the 1-2 shift accumulator spring. They are bad about breaking and will give a really hard shift.
