Regardless of the answer, I'm still gonna buy the car...
Can anyone tell me about the reliability and maintenance costs of the Evo? I mean, as a daily driver, I'm not going to be needing a new transmission after X amount of miles like if I were driving a Galant or something

No as a daily driver you will not be needing a new transmission for a long while. You will need although, new tries becuase it eats them up. Also you will need ALOT of gas money. You will need to refill the car about every 120 miles becuase of its small gas tank (weight issue). Thats about it.

he's right about the fuel range. if you keep spooling that turbo, you'll actually see the fuel needle move down (my experience with a VI). on a trip driving from los angeles to las vegas, i had to fill up three times. the range is horrible. but if you can control yourself and shift at 4000rpm and drive it like a normal Lancer, fuel economy shouldn't be that bad.
i'd also keep it stock for day to day driving. that carbon ralliart clutch is great for 5000 rpm jump starts, but you'll be hating life in traffic. especially when it's cold (clutch chatter).
the only other problems i ever experienced were a turbo hose popping off under heavy acceleration and a power window that kept sticking. other than that, it's a great car, you'll love it.

You'll go through tires pretty quickly. I think that's what luckym85 was saying.
