JUST MAKE SURE YOU GET THE SMG TRANSMISSION. I mean it shifts in 80 milliseconds. Thats twice as fast as the Ferrari 360 does and 10 miliseconds slower then an F1 car. That transmission is the shit.

Every laguna seca blue M3 I've seen with less than 15k miles have been 45 grand or more. You might want to look into an E36 M3 or perhaps something completely different.

I disagree. Well, let me temper that. It all depends on what your purposes are. If you want it because its easier to drive in alot of traffic, maybe. Or if you want it because you plan on driving mostly road courses, maybe. But, if you want the quickest launches and best drag times, no way. All the magazine analysis has shown the manual beats the SMG on timed 0-60 or 1/4 mile runs by about 3/10 seconds.

Those magazine (car and driver and motor trend, etc.) never figured out how to use the US version of launch control! The story would have been (at least somewhat) different otherwise.

You show me just one magazine review and test that shows that the sMG car even holds its own in a drag with the stick, and I'll change my position. Until then, I'll go by the 5 reviews Ive read, including bimmer magazine, which said that the 0-60 is won by about 3/10s second every single time! Unless you know how to shift the smg better than the pros, you can expect the same fate....Live with it!

BMW has had to warrenty a lot of SMG engines because of some ECU problems. It's not suppose to let you downshift into redline but on the earlier ones SMG1, it would let you and well you know what happens. The SMGII was suppose to fix this but it hasn't been long enough to tell.

My personal oppinion on this whole SMG thing is that it looks and feels like playing a video game. Now I have not driven one but I have driven a steptronic and those suck. A manual is not a manual without a real stick and clutch pedal. Yeah yeah it shifts faster than God but it still is odd to me, and only a 5 speed. Anyway just my .02 cents...

Ha! Not one american mag has figured out the US M3 has a "secret" version of launch control. Each one tried to launch without it. Evo magazine in Britain has the 6-speed and SMG as equal.

I've driven it. I own one. It's great. Nuff said.

If its so secret, then how many US owners do you think will be using it? Since you know, something none of the magazines apparently figured out, why not clue us in on how to use it?

I would fair to wager that his "secret launch" thing is called his brake pedal...:flash: :flash: :flash:
