I need to change my timing belt (4cyl., 2.3 l ) and I got to the point where I
have to remove the crankshaft pulley There is a 7/8 bolt holding it on....and I can't break it. I tried a impact and a cheater bar. First question -
I am assuming this is a regular bolt ( not reverse threads). Second, I notice
there are two 1/4" holes in the face of the pulley. Are these holes for a
special tool to keep the pulley from spinning? because this was a major problem trying to loosen the bolt and keep the crank from spinning. Am I
on the right track........my ranger is dead till I get this pulley off....
thanks

An air-impact gun would not remove it? Remove the radiator and get a better or bigger gun like a 1/2" drive 700 foot-pound model. I am assuming you are squeezing a 3/8" gun between the pully and radiator?
If not, then your impact gun is weak or that is one stubborn bolt! I never had a problem removing a crank bolt with an impact.

I did remove the radiator and used a 1/2" drive 450 ft/lb craftsman impact.
Its not reverse threads is it?

it's not reverse threads you nee a beter gun because those are tight, tight try to a half inch drive from autozone and you have to have 90 psi or above to get it loose...good luck...

I can get a 600 lb impact and I am pretty sure my compressor will do 120 psi.
I originally tried it with a 400 lb. impact and 85-90 psi. I will try again this weekend. If I am successful in getting this bolt out will I need a puller to remove the pulley?
