Intermittent starting problem-94 Ranger

I have a 94 Ranger, 4 liter, 5 speed. Occasionally it will not start. This happens when it is hot outside and/or when the engine is hot. The problem is the fuel pump doesn't start when the key is moved to the ignition ON position. I know now to listen for the fuel pump. If I don't hear it I know the engine will not start. I have replaced the fuel pump relay and the ignition switch. I have always gotten it to start by "fiddling" with the ignition (on/off) and pulling out the pump relay and reinserting it. There isn't one thing that always works. I can get the fuel pump to work by actuating the relay but that doesn't allow me to start it. The truck has never stopped on me after I've gotten it started. I'm convinced it isn't the pump but.... Any suggestions?
I believe I found my problem. I checked all the connections to my fuse panel and discovered that the power to the fuel pump also has to go through the EEG power relay. I replaced this relay (less than $10) and, so far, I have had no additional problems.
