I had my neutral safety switch fail on my 95 last fall and drove all winter without fixing it. The part that failed on mine was the part that operated the back-up lights and prevented the trunk release from working unless in Park or Neutral. The switch failed "Open" so I bypassed the trunk release by connecting the +12v from the glove box light to the release button in the glove box. This allowed me to use the electric trunk release.
Replacing the neutral safety switch wasn't too big a deal. Just had to remove the air cleaner assembly and then I could get to the switch from above. Three bolts to remove the switch and one nut to disconnect from the shift leverage. New switch from dealer would have been $175 Canadian. Got an after market one for $110.
