Fuel Pump Re-installation

Hi all,
I've got an '02 GTP (112k miles) and was having the problem with faulty fuel gauge readings. So, I replaced the fuel sending unit with the AC Delco SK1051 (as recommended). However, I cannot secure the steel lock ring back to where it should be. I've tried lubing the new gasket, pushing the fuel pump down with wooden shims under a steel bar spanning the opening, and tapping the ring with a screwdriver and hammer - all to no avail.

Has anyone had this problem before? Has anyone used a fuel pump lock ring wrench to install the lock ring? If so, where can I get one (no luck at AutoZone or Advance)? Or, is there a better way to complete this installation?

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Alot of people have problems reinstalling the fuel pump pod. The key is to have the pod centered just right over the opening in the gas tank. Not cocked at any angle. And then since it is spring loaded push down with sufficient force. I've done two with no problems.

I agree with bnaylor. If you have it cocked at all, it won't go. If you get it lined up properly, it should slide in with relative ease.

Thanks guys. I was able to complete the installation without much trouble. All I needed was to get a better angle on the lock ring with the screwdriver and hammer. Didn't even have to push the unit down while tapping it into place either. Took less than ten seconds. Weird. I spent all Sunday afternoon fussing around with it and all I needed was a minor adjustment.
