Hi,
I have 1990 V6 3.1 Lumina, 240,000Miles. This just started:
When cold, going 40 - 50 mph, all of a sudden speedometer shows between 0 and 20 MPH then back to 40. At the same time, Low Coolant light comes on and flashes as the speedometer shows the wrong speed. Eventually Service Engine soon light flashes or comes on and stays on. Engine does not run right, stalls at idle when this happens. I put the car in park, it starts right up, but same thing happens when driving. When car warms up (after 10 min) this issue does not reappear. I replaced VSS, checked for codes - there is not code in the computer.
Please help!
Thank you, Alex

Yikes...electrical gremlin in a 17 year-old car with a quarter million miles...this should be easy...
I'm at a loss. Start with checking all the electrical connectors and engine/chassis grounds you can get to...I had a Dodge Shadow in the shop once acting similar (gauges going crazy, CEL without codes set, wild idle, stalling), there was a thermostat stud that served as a ground for three different systems...when I grabbed the wires they broke off, corrosion...after repair everything worked fine again...
I'll post again if anything pops to mind..
