I am about to get 2 15 inch subwoofers put in my 98 Maxima. Does anyone know how powerful of an amp i need to get to go along w/ them.

go for kenwood amps.....they are 2 ohms so they`ll double power running regular subs that r 4 ohms.....^^

Ummm.

Kenwoods are STABLE at 2 ohms...they are not 2 ohms in a regular parallel wiring scenario.

If you bought an amp and wired 2 4ohm speakers in series, then the amp would be pushing two ohms. Which is a little bit less than double power on that channel.

Buy a 2 year old PPI Amp on Ebay.
PPI, as of 2 years ago all the way back to 1990, are the best amps ever made. unless you can afford a $20,000 McIntosh.

I suggest for your load, an older PPIA600 Art Series, or, if you don't want something that old, a PPI PC4600 from 1999.

As everyone knows, they were bought by a/d/s in 2000, after some legal trouble, so they aren't as good now as they used to be.

But on the older stuff, you can't beat .02% THD.

But then again, this is for subs, and it's all about the power, not so much THD. PPI Amps are also underrated in power, unlike, for instance, punch, that lcaim to measure at RMS, but really measure at peak.

My A600 (600x1 at 2 ohms) is pushing 850watts in actuality as measured by a meter. (Muhahaha)

As a second choice, or if you'd rather have something newer, Kenwood and Xtant are pretty good also.:flash:

doesn`t ohm represent resistance?...so doesn`t less resistance = more power to the speakers?.....i`m confused....!! :(

When you have 2 4 ohm speakers running into one lead (parallel), then you have 2 ohms out of the Amp.

I forget the math for it, but 2ohms puts out nearly dounble the power of the amp at 4ohms.

Nearly every amp out there is a 4 ohm amp stable at 2 ohms. Some, Like Nakamichi, Zapco, PPI, etc... are stable at 1 ohm.

Orion made an amp a few years ago that dropped to .5 ohms.

Kicker and PPI (and a few of the top Orian models amps are best for subs, which amps exactly depend on your exact subs. Check out http://get2sites.woofersetc.com for some great prices.
