Starting a power inverter automatically?

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew of a way that could turn a power inverter on when the car is started? I was thinking of some sort of connection to the remote wire, such as used for the audio system. Its not that I'm too lazy to flick a switch to turn it on, I'm more interested in the inverter powering off, along with the car. I wouldn't want to forget and have it kill my battery.

Any input or ideas are appreciated. Thank you!

You should wire it to the fuse box. rather than using the cigar lighter's socket. What do you think of that idea?

Hook in a relay to the ignition wire. Bingo.

The japanese car I own cuts power to the cigarette lighter (and power outlets) when the ignition is off. But my european truck doesn't.

Aah HA!
Thats exactly what I need, a relay. The ignition wire is a much better choice. Thank you very much for the responses. I knew something of that purpose existed, I just had no idea of what it was called.
I was planning on wiring the inverter directly to the electrical system (with proper safety concerns) and bypass that hideously clumsly cigarette lighter setup, so it does sound like a good idea.

I'm sure I can figure the rest out, either by google or wiki; if all else fails, I'll be sure to come back here. Thanks guys.

BTW, it is an Acura.
