i just got my new car, wondering if i could get some tips on the best way to race in an automatic....if im already rolling at 60-70k's... would shifting from 2 into D be good or just floor it on D..... its got 1, 2, D, N, R, P
At a red light i hear just holding the brake and floor it up then letting go of the brakes, and gas it all the way...
i got a s14 series 2, any help would be much appreciated, thankss..
sorry if its a noob question... >_<

damn.. sorry in wrong section.....but any help is good....

nobody here "races" automatics. no offense but if you dont think you can handle manual, you cant handle racing, period. the thing you heard about is called brake boosting, and yeah it works. constantly shifting your auto isnt a good idea either.

automatic in theory is good for Drag. u will need a better Torque converter so can handle the high pressure required for quick shifting and a different gears in ur box.

stock 240 auto has only 4 speed hence longer gears so it will take longer for the power band to kick in longer 1/4 time then a 5 speed.

in theory u can remove the over drive button (click on it) so ur car will shift at high rpm. but that is useless since u have ur led food implanted all the way.

some other automatic ( i don't know about S14) have the "power, comfort" setting. all that does is increase the pressure in the torque converter, again it has marginal effect since u only have 4 speed.

u can change ur final drive to lower the general gear ratio of ur car but u will sacrifice the top end on ur car.

bottom line, shifting from D to 2 or whatever will only aid u in breaking ur tranny. break and gas can give u a "launch" effect but again u don't have the gear ration to keep u competitive against a 5 speed.

I'm going to reiterate what these guys have said: Racing an automatic is pointless.

Also, to be entirely honest, street racing - especially for someone who just got a car (new driver or just new car) - is stupid. It shows a lack of appreciation for your vehicle and a lack of understanding or desire to understand what things besides OMG STREET RACING!!!11! that you can do with it. Learn about your car before you go out and break it being stupid while trying to race a honda that revved on you.

Besides that, I really don't advise street racing or brake boosting with an automatic transmission. I used to work at a car shop where some kid used to do the same thing and we replaced 4 transmissions in one year for this idiot. Not kidding. Unless your daddy happens to be a rich prick who feels it's worth the waste of money, I wouldn't recommend doing what you're inquiring about.

If you absolutely must have information about street racing your car, we have a street racing forum here (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=550)
