98 dodge ram 1500 3.9l not starting or stalling when it does

Parked the car the other night, everything was fine, go to start it the next morning and it started up after some cranking and stalled right out. if you start it and give it some gas it will start up as long as you hold the pedal then dies when you let go. today i started it and ran it at half idle for a few seconds then let off and it held. once i turned it off and restarted it was dead again. battery is new, doesnt seem like a spark problem. any takers?
