Turbo Timer

Just got a 2005 wrx. Ive heard from a few friends how if you shut the motor off after driving the oil will boil in the turbo and potentially casue leaks and turbo problems. Thus buy a turbo timer. My thought was if it is stock with no mods, if i trully needed this wouldnt the car come with it? Is it a necessity or no?

the better thing to do is just idle your car for 5 or so min after a hard run, or drive the last 10 min at a sane no boost pace, and your turbo will be fine, but if you like to run hard and shurt your car off right after then you will run into problems with the oil cooking inside the turbo, all a turbo timer does is run your engine for a set amount of time after you have turned it off. Subaru most likely assumes your not a moron and therefore doesn't need to apply this to the turbo cars.

Actually, on the unmodified version of the WRX, Subaru designed the car to have enough heat dissipation so that boiling oil (a la the middle ages) isn't really a problem. Of course, if you run your motor extremely hot and then slam on the brakes and shut down the engine immediately on a daily basis, I can see how that would be detrimental...

It's amazing how many people driving WRX's know absolutely nothing about the design of both the turbo and cooling systems.

The turbo on a WRX is water cooled, you don't need a turbo timer to control the cool-down cycle as the water cooling system works to control this.

Sorry for the misinformation on the Subaru, i should have noted that i was giving out genaric information, not information specific to the Subaru

i figured that was the case, minus the info about the cooled turbo, ill continue to read about it all. thanks for your help
