You would gain some performance from just a catback. Moreso than an n/a car. That being said, the real power is unlocked from the o2 dump and downpipe.
A lot of aftermarket systems use mufflers instead of purely resonators, so yes it will sound different depending on which brand you choose.

i heard that if u use a 3in catback you lose low end power..is this true....or do you have to change the downpipe to notice this????

Always with going with bigger exhaust you will notice a slight decrease in low end torque, but that will be shadowed by the high end gains you will get. Of course since the cat back isnt really as helpful as the downpipe, you will notice it less then if you were to get a full turboback exhaust.
