88 Toro stalls at stops

Hey all, this morning my 88 with 175,000 miles keeps stalling when i come to stop. About a year ago I replaced the catalytic converter with an aftermarket one, and ever since then I have had exhaust leaks at the couplings. My questions are this:

1. can you bypass the converter on these with a straight pipe, or does there need to be certain amount of back presure?

2. I am going to replace fuel filter, pcv valve, and egr. Is there anything else that I should look for. I havent had a chance to check fuel pressure yet but i will.

When it does stall, it starts right back up. The idle is right at 625rpm. Is that low? Is there a way to turn it up just a little?

Thanks All

Clean the throttle body and iac, it is against the Federal EPA regs to remove the cat.

Update, cleaned iac and throttle body. Drove it around this weekend and everything ran fine, but the true test will be the 40 mile commute to work in the morning, Thanks for the reply
