water cooled oil cooler

I've been attempted to locate the oil filter housing for the 1g swap i had to do...no place in town has it except I can order it from the dealer ($432.14 later). I've also read all the info on the magnus motorsports 1gina2g.pdf swap info and it mentions "1G Oil Cooler (90-92 MD 157670 6bolt water cooled oil cooler)". I want to be able to use my water cooled oil cooler from my 97 gst, but its not directly compatible. Does anyone know what that part number references or have any info on how I can fit my 6 bolt with a water cooled oil cooler? Does anyone have the housing i need for sale?

i never owned a 1g turbo or i might have the answer to my own question here though. I know the difference between the filter housing...the 7 bolt housing has a female connection which the oil cooler bolts to using a double sided male threaded pipe which the filter bolts to.

Ive been searching the internet for days looking for the 1g equivalent, knowing that the 6 bolt housing uses a male threaded pipe, my oil cooler would not bolt to it...ive found this though

Is this what that part number mentioned in the last post is? (besides the fact it is sawed in half) if so, how much and give it to me. Now I am just trying to piece this together mentally though. if this version of the oil cooler is female threaded, and bolts to the male threaded housing, how does the filter bolt to it?

Why not just run and external air cooled oil cooler?

cause water cooled is more efficient, plus my car already has the lines for the water cooled oil cooler.

I've never heard of or seen one of these water cooled oil coolers... Got any pics?

this is one off of 2g, stole the link from another thread...but this is what mine looks like. there is a 3" pipe that goes in the middle that inserts into the housing...the filter screws on the other end. ive been told there is a 6 bolt version of this though. the dealer cant seem to locate the part number though

mine looks like the housing on the left, except the left bolt hole is closer to the center, and the bottom one is almost directly below the center oil hole.
it looks like my oil cooler will bolt to that one if it fits a 6 bolt. if not, i am told there is an oil cooler like mine that screws to the housing on the right
any questions or is everyone lost...

It was my understanding that the external air cooled ones are more efficient. I thought about it the other day too. Running a non water cooled one you can just eliminate those lines all together so thats just less stuff to worry about.

They only put them on a few different years for some reason. If I'm not mistaken they put them on the 1g 90-91, but I was not aware that they were on any 2g's. They really aren't that much better than the normal air cooled systems. Just more shit to deal with really. My car had one that I simply left on there just because it would have been way more work to remove it.

Ok, I know what your talkin about now... But what are we trying to figure out here? Just if its worth it or not? I would just stick to an air cooled one. Too many extra lines for leaks and shit...

well, the way i figure it is...the water cooled one is already air cooled by radiator...if i already have an oil cooler, why dont i find the housing for it, since i need a housing anyways.

this is what my current block looks like

this is apparently what the two different housings look like for a 7 bolt
i drew lines on it to show the position of the bottom hole

this is what they look like for a 6 bolt, see how they are different.

and also ebay item 120121423996

I only thought there were 2 kinds, then 3, now i found 5 different kinds.
seeing that I want to use my oil cooler, which one looks like the best fit.

Yeah and recirculating through a 210 degree motor before it cools the oil in the cooler... I donno man, I just don't see it working better than an air cooled oil cooler. If it worked so well then we would see it on a lot more models than just a few rare ones. Which kinda makes me wonder if it was a small test group of DSM's that had them only, and then failed the test. Ya know what I mean?

I had it on my 7 bolt. My 6 bolt is going to get an external eventually. A lot of them run with no oil cooler at all so I dont think it is a necessity. Unless you are doing some Road Racing or Canyon Runs where you are doing extended periods of time really pushing the car.

i got a diagram from mitsubishi, but it shows two different housings but doesnt show which one has the female threads. off to the right of the pic, it then shows the oil cooler diagram. dont know which to get but i got a source on ebay who says he has the one i need. it just seems better to get water cooled coolers because water takes more energy to heat and cools metal faster because it absorbs more heat than air. but i am no physisist.
