Out of oil

I have a 99 Honda Civic w/55,000 miles. I had my oil changed 8,000 miles ago. My car is now out of oil (OK, really stupid of me I know) and I need a new engine according to two mechanics including a Honda dealership. I realize I was behind on maintenance, but am wondering if anybody has any idea why this happened. Doesn't seem like a Honda should have run out of oil that quickly. I'm told Honda says their cars can "burn up to 1 quart per thousand miles." Does that sound normal? I'm getting ready to buy (ouch) a new engine.

what happened to the engine did it seize on you ?
or did ya just take it in .. ???
you may not need a new engine if you didn't damage it..
but you very well may..
you could have had a small leak.. and over 8k miles it'll all come out..
and in the future.. every 3k miles k ..

Yeah, all of a sudden my car made really loud noises as I pressed down the accelerator. Two mechanics have told me I need a new engine, so I have learned this lesson the expensive way. Thanks for the thoughts - maybe it was a slow leak...right, every 3k...

ouch i'm sorry to hear that... ya locked it up pretty good..
there is a chance you wouldn't need a new engine.. but it'll cost ya just as much to revamp the old one.. so spend a few grand and get a b18c5, and drop it in .. and have fun with it..
