Well i THOUGHT i had blown my motor in my 420a well i was wrong but a new problem has presented itself the crank pulley is stuck weve done heat and broke a pulley puller.

So my question is will a DOHC head Fit on a neon or SOHC block? I asked my dad and he didnt know so i throw it to you guys.

Well it depends on the year.

95-99 Stratus coupe, Neon, Breeze, Avenger, Eclipse GS, and Talon Esi all have either a 420a DOHC or SOHC.

Now to tell you some interesting facts. The SRT-4 bottom end can bolt to the head of a 420a and fit in a Talon ESi (scotts gonna love that). So in retrospect you can turbo a 420a/srt-4 hybrid with ease. Now i dunno how true these facts are these came for www.srt-4forums.com.

I know many Neons came with a SOHC head, but I don't know if it was a 420A block. I used to work with a guy that had one of those and the thing was slower than balls...this coming from an owner of a 420A lol.

There are SOHCs in the neons, they are 420a's IIRC. I was going to buy one back in the day... don't laugh... this one was special... lol

I'm not sure what the previous owner did, but it was smoking 5.0's... and that was all motor, it was ready for turbo/nitrous...

the car didn't sound like it had shit done to it, and that's what was better...

Aside from lacking traction, the car was fast...

oh, and it had a ghay wing on the back... and altezzas... but the motor was built right...

5.0 huh? Are you sure they weren't the late 80's stangs or something? lol

don't call me bs... I have nothing to gain by lying for someone else's car...

it was racing the 1/8th against a late 80's(5.0 swapped, FI), a 92 5liter, and a 95? 5-liter... the main advantage that the neon had was weight, the other guys were lugging around heavy ass stereos and the 92 had a terrible tune... it was struggling to stay started at idle...

Hey man relax I wasn't gettin' on your case. Just wanted to point out that those 5.0's put out like what...190 hp? So if that's the case I can fully believe somebody with a heavily built 420A could take them. But something worthy of it's displacement would be hard to beat. :smokin:

sry, I've been getting called a liar a lot here lately, and it's really getting me fired up... b/c I try to be honest a/b stuff, and my ex can be a b!tch...

Anywayz, these guys were the local Ricestangs... nothing too special a/b them... Hell, I fucked up the '92 with my RS... different story though...

I apologize for being so quick to anger...

Crank pulley... I'm assuming you're talking about the harmonic balancer???

You know, you have to pull the motor or at least drop the engine down on one side to get that pulley to clear the inner fender right???

I had a helluva time figuring that out too... took me a total of three days to get my pulley off (putting on underdrive, and kept getting wrong tools, it was my first time)...

I finally realized that the top of the pulley was hitting on the inner fender and hindering the pulley from coming completely off...

The engine is fully out of the car Mike, the head is off and everything the damn pulley is just stuck. Im taking it to a mechanic hopefully today.

And for all the 420a guys a motor for us runs from 900$ to 2800$ amazing huh?

k, just wanted to make sure you weren't hitting that... I have nowhere to work on my cars, so most of the work is with the motor in the car :p

I distinctly remember sitting under my car with a prybar(large) in the rain, prying against the side of the block/oil pan(where they connect)...

just make sure you don't bend anything...
