2000 Jetta Simple Issue?!?

Hi I have a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLS. It's great, no problems that prevent it from driving great but there is one quirck I would like to fix. When I put the key in the ignition and start the vehicle it makes a ding noise that goes away after like 1-2 minutes. Sounds sorta like the noise that my old cavilier would make when i left the lights on when I turned off the car. It's sort of like a ding ....pause.. ding ....pause...ding . No Idea what it could be. Also Another thing I noticed is when that ding goes away, if I turn on the lights it's a solid ding with no pause for a good 1-2 minutes. If I turn the lights off right after I turn them on after the origonal startup ding goes away it comes back. Also if I just start the car and turn on the headlights it's a solid dinnnnnng noise. Really annoying, it's a manual transmission if that means anything. Any help would be much appreciated.

I have a 2000 vr6 that has had that same problem since i bought it 2 years ago. most cars have a small button inside the door jam, so every time your door is closed the button is depressed letting the car know that your door is closed, and when the button isnt pushed the car knows the door is open, Then comes the " ding....ding....ding...ding.." well the germans are so fantastical, they decided to build this button into the locking mechanism making it a $300 repair, so you can either buy the part yourself and try to replace it, or take it in. but its really no big deal, you can just turn your stereo up loud enough not to hear it for a couple minutes. thats what i do.
