Trouble with Buick

I'm not a mechanic so I'll try to describe the problem the best I can.
I have a
93 Buick Century
Automatic Transmission
6 cyl. engine
140,000 miles (I'm guessing) It's 139,500 something.
The main problem is that it stalls when it's idle. Whenever I drive long distances and don't stop at any lights, like if I was on a highway, it's fine. It stalls afterwards when I go into towns, also when I go the back roads the same distance and stop multiple times it stalls when I stop. It'll stall when I restart it unless I put on some gas right away.
Before it stalls my entire engine shudders violently, and when I put the gas on it doesn't go fast it drags for a bit then goes to the speed I want.
The mechanic said something about cleaning carbon from a sensor which he did, but it started stalling again a few weeks after. When I keep it under 30 mph it doesn't stall, but when I go past 50 mph it usually stalls when I stop after I drive it for a long period of time.

There are several possibilities here that could be causing the issue. The first thing that comes to mind is a dirty throttle body and idle air control motor. That is probably what the mechanic cleaned and it has carboned up again and is causing the issue. Another issue is a Torque convertor clutch solenoid that is not releasing. Because you stated that once you go over 50 this happens then that is a clue. The solenoid locks the convertor at around 45-50 mph. If it doesn't release then it will cause the stalling after a trip.
I would have the transmission scanned by a shop to see if that is the issue. Also have the throttle body cleaned along with the Idle Air Control motor and see if the car runs OK after that.
