i check about 4 pages back to make sure I'm not posting something that has been posted already
my speedometer isn't working i just got a new Gauge cluster beings i wasn't sure if that was the problem. The previous owner had changed out the stock cluster for Reverse gauges and i didn't know if he had broken the speedometer doing so.
So i ordered a new(used) one on eBay out of a 98 gs.
But its still a no go on the speedometer.
The Odometer works sorta clicking off a few blocks for every 10-15 miles i drive
also the new gauge cluster has about a 500 higher rpm red line and says unleaded fuel only where the other one said premium fuel only what is the right ones for my Car its a 96 RS
any help would be great thx

your speed sensor probably fell off. Find it and plug it back in.

The one that says unleaded fuel only would be for your car...the ones that say premium only are for the Turbo models...

The Speed Sensor from Auto Zone cost about 40 dollars. It comes with a new wireing harness so you will have to do some electrical work while swapping the speed sensor. I am having the same problems too in my 96 Eclipse RS I swaped my speed senor and my cluster but my speedo is still not work and my odometer is would register like 3/10 of a mile for a 6 mile ride. Let me know if you figure out what the problem is.
And yes the unleaded Fuel would be the right cluster...should have a redline at 7000

Does your car have 4 gauges (fuel, temp, mph, rpm), or 6 gauges (mph, rpm, temp, oil, boost, fuel). If you have an RS, you should only have 2 small gauges (temp, fuel) and 2 large (mph, rpm), otherwise you have the wrong gauges.

the sensor when i bought one 2 years ago was $68 and it didnt come with a harness. there was a change made around 97-98 to the clip. it was about $10 less when i bought it from the dealer and it came with the harness. cut cut snip snip, solder, heat shrink, done. that is just for the rs though. pretty easy to change out if you take the battery out. it is right on the top of the tranny where the cv axles are inserted. it is all electronic after the sensor so if it isnt working, check wiring afterwards. when mine stopped working, the needle dropped to 0 most of the time, never ran up miles. sometimes my gst will not show a speed after starting it, but the miles are going like normal. i found that tapping it wakes it up. if i remember correctly, my rs redlines at 7000rpm but fuel cut off is 7250, where as my gst and gsx redlines at 7500 but can reach 8000 before the rev limiter.
