I have an automatic 96 mitsubishi eclipse rs. Is there anything i can do to make it faster or is it a lost cause? It already has an aftermarket exhaust and cold air intake.

your wasting your time dude, i got a gs, and im not gonna do anything to it, im just gonna buy a gst or gsx when i have the money.your gonna be spending way to much to get it fast and tuning an auto is pointless.just hang around and learn about dsm's, then get a good one when you can.

double burn, an automatic RS

i agree with above poster, I had a 97 GS and that thing was slow!

You could turbo it for modest power gains, but to run more than 7 psi of boost you would want to build up the motor...maybe upgrade the tranny...blah blah etc. etc.

In the end its not worth it unless you want to spend 2x as much making that thing fast as it would take to sell yours and buy a GST/GSX.

I sold my RS (5-speed btw)... I've got a TSI and a TSI AWD... happier than ever (when they run:()

Keep that one for a daily, buy a turbo for fun...

all of these guys are right, i used to have a rs, the neon green machine.. (RIP)

but the 420A is a lost cause, sorry to knock your car but if you really want power, ull have to buy a gsx- gst, or go talon.. Either way if you stuck with your current 420A model, you could throw som bolt ons on it like headers, downpipes etc. But if you have some money, and you dont feel like selling ure car just buy this

and dont be fooled, you wont run 25 psi on this, or get 350 horsepower with an rs. URe running a 105 horsepower stock motor, with a cai and exaust, wich brings you to about 130 at the most. Youll only be able to push out at the most 7 or 8 psi before having to rebuild ure top end, trying to run more, and i see a toasted engine in your future. my advice... stay away from rs gs and get a talon tsi awd!!

AMEN!!:p

Stock hp is 140 on the 420a.

"ull have to buy a gsx- gst, or go talon"
Talon ESi comes with the 420a also. You have to specify Talon TSi.

The stock top end can actually handle a good amount of power. However, it's restricting quite a bit because of flow and cams. It's the bottom end that's not built to handle high boost. That would have to be rebuilt if you plan on going up high on the boost scale. However, the top end also needs to get done in order to make everything work better together. It's all doable, and a great project if you want to do something like that.

420a ftw x2 IMO

Most people don't throw out whp numbers and you didn't specify. The HP output of the motor is 140. You don't go around saying the 4g63 has 173 whp now do you? No, the 210 HP is usually what is referred to.

It would be better if everyone measured at the wheels.
Its kinda funny when someone dynos their modified car and it makes at or just above what the stock numbers say and then there like WTF?
but its even better when you tell someone you have 285 hp and they have
g35 with 300 and think they will win and you smoke them.

Ya, but that's not the case. Most cars are listed HP at crank, not at the wheels.

Yeah man i think i saw a turbo kit for the 420A on slowboys website it was goin for 4 grand http://www.slowboyracing.com/more.php?id=5331&mods=21-9127 That looks like it comes with everything you would need with the fuel upgrades, turbo install kit, intercooler and safc. I didnt see them including the Fuel pressure regulator, data logger or boost gauge so that would be extra cash to add to that 4k. Plus if u have to rebuild the internals on the engine to handle that, ur probably looking at enough cash to buy an already turboed car. I dont know anything about the 420A's so i couldnt tell u the specific things ud need. But i do know what its like to have a slow car, ive been living with a 1.8L talon since 99. With a good 97 hp to the fly, ive been embarassed at many a stop light. I say keep ur 420A for a daily driver and get a 4g63T. After all u will need the daily driver to go pick up parts for the other one, since most likely it will be down(in my case anyway)

well hey, thats what i classify the hp as, you can do what ever you want, but at the crank, it really doesnt matter, its the poweer at the wheels that matter. because i really dont think that your crank is on the ground thats making you move is it?? i thought so.
