My car is smoking a bit on startup, and it smokes a lil if i really get on the gas too. its not tons of smoke, but noticible. So, my guess is that it is the valve stem seals, am i right? any other ideas what might cause it? if it is the valve stem seals, is there anywhere that has instructions on how to replace em? how much am i lookin at pricewise? how long does it take? Thanx Alot, Ryan

If you let it idle then rev it and see blue smoke it is probably VSS. How many miles do you have on your car?
The last time I did VSS replacement I had the engine out of the car and it took about 3-4 hours.

From a PM
you replied to my post about smoke on startup, and asked about mileage... i kno its alot, but its 160k on i believe the original motor
As long as it fits the description of no smoke unless it idles for a short time, then some blue smoke when you take off I would bet on VSS. Esp with that mileage. What color is the smoke coming out of the car? White, blue tinted, or black / dark gray.

black as best as i can tell, which would indicate its running too rich, right? how do i combat that?
