Grrrrrrrrrrrr, i'm pissed....new here and just wanting to vent. Installed the rear turbo had loads of fun, dynoed 512lbs torque, 470rwmp on a stock with a new clutch which was necessary during the installion....driving back boosted to 8lbs pulling 6000rpms at 140mph and i think it overboosted :banghead: and blew head gasket which then put the water/oil in crackshaft and bye bye engine....knock knock knock to the side of the road and now i'm home with a rental contemplating repair or new engine....any thoughts????

First get an assessment of the damage done, and go from there. I'm guessing it will be cheaper to fix it. Did your car have stock internals, or aftermarket forged internals?

see the question remains, do i just fix it and keep what i have or take advantage of the engine pull and make changes...i've really got two options right now; go with the iron block forged engine being offered by the shop or ask them to rebuild mine...this has gotten pretty hairy today with even a lawyer offering a 'sue them' solution and get all this for free.

I don't think you'd have a case in the "sue them" option. Firstly, you asked for the turbo to be put on a stock engine that wasn't designed for boost. Second. You were doing 140 MPH in a street car. And third, almost every aftermarket performance parts have the disclaimer that they are not responsible for damages.

That said, go for the engine they are offering. If you get to keep your old engine, rebuild it yourself and sell it to recoup some of your costs.

Dont go with the lawyers advice. You don't have a case. If you do go to court to sue, and lose you will have still have to pay for your lawyer and theirs, plus legal fees.

Sounds like operator-error to me. Isn't there a break-in period for turbos anyways?
Plus, 8psi on a stock motor is just a time bomb waiting to go off.

I say, fix what broke and rebuild the motor for boost ie...dished pistons and forged internals.

So how did a lawyer get involved, anyway?
