Auburn Gear is real good, had one put in my 2wd truck and it would go almost anywhere. Also a few options as to which type you want.

Auburn is a good differential. The one issue with them is that they are not rebuildable so when they wear out, it needs to be replaced.
The Eaton Posi is rebuildable http://www.eatonperformance.com/differentials/posi-lsd.html
My car came with the Auburn and requires a special additive for clutch chatter. When it goes, I will replace it with an Eaton Posi.

Would it be a bad idea to do lots of highway driving with a Detroit Locker?

I wouldn't trade my eaton for anything in the world(except maybe a Ford 9" :grinyes: ) Truck makes close to 500hp and it has never failed to lock in when I needed it. Great product!!!
